BLÖD - Ashen Haven

In Haemos, the land where BLÖD takes place, blood is everything. It's seen as holy and a conductive of magical properties.

The capitol, Ashen Haven embodies both reverence and foreboding, where grandeur and decay coexist. Devotion to the Eight gods is enforced by an oppressive religious order, and the city’s architecture and culture inspire awe while instilling fear, keeping its people under constant scrutiny. Mortality and the divine are ever-present in towering buildings, the faint smell of blood in the streets, and the looming blood cloud system, a magical defense encircling the cathedral, storing reserves to fuel the city’s blood mages and reminding all of its dependence on blood magic.

Every year, the Ashen Haven celebrates the Bloodfall, a ritual where the Eight gods "bless" their people with a blood rain, a symbolic gift of favor and protection. This blood rain, a portion siphoned from the vast blood cloud encircling the cathedral, falls over the city for a full day, drenching its streets, structures, and people. For the people of Ashen Haven, this ritual is revered as an honor and proof of their gods grace, His Benevolence, Karaam the Bestower. In reality, however, it is a masterstroke of manipulation that reinforces the Seven’s power, maintains order, and hides a dark secret that keeps the populace under control.
